Pressure cook 1/2 cup toor dal with 2.5 cups water for 5 whistles.
Next in a pan or pressure cooker, temper 1 tsp oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 spring curry leaves,1/2 tsp hing, 2 red chillies.
Then add 10 shallots and fry till it is translucent.
Next add 2 chopped tomatoes, and the veggies (of your choice) and saute them for a min. I added 2 cubed potatoes in this batch.
Next add the ground powder, cooked 1/2 cup toor dal, 2 tbsp tamrind extract , salt and allow them to boil for 10 mins. ( Alternatively you can also pressure cook them for 2 whistles )
Garnish it with corainder leaves and it is done!
